Vonj has a dynamic and genre-blending collective of talented musicians from across Europe, rooted in jazz, soul, funk, and experimental fusion. Each member brings a rich tapestry of experience, creating a vibrant, collaborative energy on stage.
Djo (Saxophone – France): A seasoned and open-minded saxophonist, Djo brings decades of diverse performance experience. Known for his adaptability and constant growth as a musician, his playing is both expressive and technically refined.
David (Drums/Vocals/Guitar – Ireland): A multi-instrumentalist from Dublin with a background in songwriting and performance, David trained at BIMM London and Dublin. He has played extensively on the Irish circuit and lends both rhythmic power and vocal versatility to the group.
Dan (Trombone/Brass – England): A Bath-based engineer and jazz enthusiast, Dan leads the Bath University Big Band as Musical Director. His deep appreciation for big band legends like Count Basie and Duke Ellington informs his smooth, rich brass arrangements and collaborative spirit.
Jorge (Bass – Portugal): With a solid jazz foundation and a groove-focused style, Jorge has toured Portugal and the UK with funk and soul outfits including the Doggett Brothers. His playing is rooted, steady, and distinctly old-school.
Sam (Bass – England): A genre-hopping bassist from Devon, Sam’s eclectic musical upbringing spans metal, folk, funk, and alternative rock. Their adaptability and wide-ranging influences bring depth and contrast to the band’s rhythm section.
Ben (Keys – Wales): A lifelong keyboardist with classical roots turned jazz/soul/funk devotee, Ben is a flexible and expressive performer, comfortable in settings from intimate gigs to large venues like Swansea Arena.
Alex (Keys/Vocals – England): A classically trained pianist and inventive songwriter, Alex excels at genre fusion, blending rhythmic and harmonic elements across styles to create fresh, textured musical landscapes.
Together, Vonj Live is a melting pot of musical backgrounds and styles, united by a shared love for groove, improvisation, and the transformative power of live music.
